Children’s Dentistry

Gentle, positive dental experiences for kids from 12 months old. Happy gas available. A friendly team that makes even nervous little ones feel safe.

What You Need to Know

Your child’s first dental experiences shape their attitude toward oral health for life. That’s why we take extra time with young patients — building trust, using age-appropriate language, and making the visit feel like an adventure rather than something to fear.

Why Patients Choose Us

First Visits from 12 Months

The Australian Dental Association recommends a first dental visit by 12 months of age. Early visits help us catch issues before they develop and get your child comfortable with the dentist.

Happy Gas for Nervous Kids

Nitrous oxide (happy gas) helps anxious children relax during treatment. It’s safe, fast-acting, and wears off within minutes — no lingering drowsiness.

Desensitisation Techniques

For very nervous children, we use gradual desensitisation — building familiarity over multiple short visits before any treatment is needed. When they are ready, our Calerject computer-controlled anaesthetic delivers a slow, gentle injection that most kids barely notice.

Preventive Focus

Fissure sealants, fluoride treatments, and dietary advice help protect your child’s teeth before problems start. Prevention is always cheaper and easier than treatment.

Child Health Benefits

Your child may be eligible for rebates under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), covering up to $1,095 in dental services over two years for eligible children aged 0–17. We process claims on the spot so you only pay the gap.

A Team That Gets Kids

Our staff are specially trained in paediatric care. They know how to explain things in kid-friendly ways and make the experience positive.

Common Questions About Children’s Dentistry

When should my child first see a dentist?

We recommend a first visit by age 1 or when the first tooth appears. Early visits help establish a positive relationship with dental care and allow us to spot any issues early.

How do you handle anxious children?

Our team is experienced and gentle with children. We use a tell-show-do approach, let kids explore the chair and tools, and use simple language. We never force treatment — building trust comes first.

Does my child need dental X-rays?

We only take X-rays when clinically necessary — for example, to check for decay between teeth or monitor development. We use digital X-rays with very low radiation and always use protective lead aprons.

Are fissure sealants worth it?

Yes — sealants are one of the most effective preventive treatments available. They cover the grooves on back teeth where decay most commonly starts, reducing cavity risk by up to 80%.

What should I do if my child knocks out a tooth?

For a baby tooth — don’t try to put it back. For a permanent tooth — rinse it gently, try to reinsert it, or keep it in milk. Get to us immediately. Time is critical for saving a knocked-out permanent tooth.

How often should children visit the dentist?

Every 6 months for most children. Some kids at higher risk of decay may benefit from more frequent visits. We’ll recommend a schedule based on your child’s individual needs.

Can you treat children under sedation?

Yes — we offer happy gas (nitrous oxide) for anxious children. For very young children or those who need extensive treatment, we can arrange a referral for general anaesthetic. We’ll discuss the best option for your child.

When should my child start brushing on their own?

Children only need supervision with brushing up to about age 8 — before that, let them have a go first, then you finish off. Use a soft children’s toothbrush and go easy on the fluoride toothpaste until your child can reliably spit it out.

Are thumb sucking and dummies bad for teeth?

Brief sucking is normal for babies, but prolonged habits beyond age 3-4 can affect how teeth and jaws develop. If you’re concerned, bring it up at your child’s next visit and we can advise.

Does the Child Dental Benefits Schedule cover treatment here?

Yes — eligible children aged 0-17 can access up to $1,095 in dental benefits over two years through the CDBS. We provide you with an invoice that you can use to claim from Medicare. We can check eligibility at your appointment.
